Maria van Kalken will open registration and rehearsals for the 46th annual Old North Festival Chorus holiday concerts on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the sanctuary of Old North Church in Marblehead. Registration starts at 7 p.m. with a rehearsal to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Rehearsals run Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m., extending to 9:30 p.m. as the concerts approach. The two performances are set for Saturday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m.
The centerpiece of the December program, van Kalken's 38th season as director, is a Christmas Mass by Giovanni Alberto Ristori, a contemporary of Vivaldi, alongside excerpts from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and, honoring the 250th anniversary of America, music by American composers and arrangers.
Singers need not audition but are expected to have experience; high school students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to join. Details are at oldnorthfestivalchorus.org.
