TO THE EDITOR: Stramski pier repairs should be paid by boat owner

Table of Contents

To the editor:

The sailboat that caused the damage to the Stramski pier has an owner — that person is responsible for paying for repairs. If they do not have insurance, Harbors and Waters might have to sue them. But the boat owners who have insurance and do not leave their boats on a mooring in the winter should not have to pay (as they will if Harbors and Waters does not sue).

My dock was hit by two sailboats many years ago. Both dismasted as they went under the pier and broke up on the rocks. The keels are still visible. Cost me nothing to have the pier repaired. My insurance company negotiated with the boat owners.
