Friends of Abbot Public Library mark national week, begin membership drive

Table of Contents

The 2025 National Friends of Libraries Week will take place Oct. 19-25. Friends of Abbot Public Library will join the celebration to highlight the group’s volunteer work and begin their annual membership drive.

President Colleen Polk said, “leading the Friends Group is a fantastic experience to work with the library and its volunteers in service of the important ongoing activities of the library.”

The Friends sponsor programs that support the library beyond its budget. The group has purchased special items, sponsored author visits and provided free passes to popular area museums. It also runs the Sail Away Book Shop inside the library and organizes semiannual and pop-up book sales with donated fiction, nonfiction and children’s books.

The group informs the community about library services through a Facebook page and email updates. Polk encouraged residents to visit the library, learn more about programs offered through the Friends, and stop by the bookstore on the main floor.

Membership options for 2026 are $15 for seniors age 65 and older and students, and $25 for individuals or households.
