Marblehead High School’s boys’ varsity basketball team is set to play at the Boston Garden on Jan. 9 in the Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational, according to Friends of Marblehead Basketball. The volunteer booster group is asking residents to help pay for the season with a night out three weeks from now.

Rock the Court starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Gerry 5, 210 Beacon St. The evening includes live music, a silent auction, light bites and a cash bar. Admission is by donation at the door, and the event flyer carries a Venmo QR code for people who want to give that way.

Proceeds go to both the girls’ and boys’ programs, the group said.

Since 2022, the volunteer-run 501(c)(3) has awarded more than 25 scholarships to Marblehead High School seniors; paid for a new shooting machine at the high school and new backboards and rims at the Veterans Gym; and run youth basketball nights, holiday clinics and community basketball events, according to its release. The group also says it has backed Move4Heather DFCI fundraisers that have raised more than $25,000, and that it pays for team activities, varsity trips and senior celebrations.

Autumn Moran, who sent the announcement on the group’s behalf, called the Garden game “a rare opportunity for a high school team.”
