Washington Street belonged to trick-or-treaters Thursday afternoon. Police closed it to cars from the bottom of Pleasant Street to Rockaway Street, and closed Summer Street too, for the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce’s Trick-or-Treating in the Business Districts. Families walked down the middle of the road, and shopkeepers handed out candy from their doorways.
Two children in inflatable chicken suits made their way through the crowd. One trick-or-treater came as a claw machine, stuffed animals and all, and a family of train engineers brought along its youngest in a homemade No. 43 locomotive.
St. Michael’s Church held its Halloween Spooktacular from 4 to 7 p.m. with crafts, games and food, and the Marblehead Family Fund and Marblehead Museum filled the Jeremiah Lee Mansion garden at 161 Washington St. with carved and painted pumpkins for their 18th annual Pumpkin Illumination.
Halloween is Saturday. Police strongly recommend trick-or-treating between 5 and 8 p.m. and ask drivers to slow down and watch for children.
