Household hazardous waste collection day set for Oct. 8

The towns of Marblehead and Swampscott will host a joint Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Marblehead Transfer Station, 5 Woodfin Terrace, with access via Green Street.

The event allows residents to safely dispose of materials such as oil-based paints, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, and automotive fluids. Latex paint, fluorescent bulbs, and propane tanks will also be accepted, with fees of $25 for gas-grill tanks and $5 for small torch tanks. Proof of residency is required.

Collection fees:

— $40 for up to 3 gallons or 6 pounds

— $55 for 3 to 10 gallons or 20 pounds

— $90 for 10 to 25 gallons or 50 pounds

— Additional amounts priced accordingly

— Credit card or check only

Residents are asked to leave items in their original containers, tighten lids, and never mix chemicals. Materials should be packed upright in sturdy boxes and transported directly to the site. Smoking is prohibited while handling hazardous materials.

Items not accepted include rigid plastics, empty containers, prescription drugs, asbestos, fireworks, and commercial or industrial waste.

The collection is sponsored by the Marblehead and Swampscott Health Departments and operated by Trident Environmental Group.
