Jeanne Lambkin, a longtime Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA and YMCA of the North Shore board member, donor, volunteer and advocate, received the David Sherman Community Strengthening Award during a June 18 ceremony at the Marblehead, Massachusetts, facility.
The annual award is named for David Sherman, described by the Y as the largest contributor to the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA capital campaign that funded the new building. Lambkin is the ninth recipient.
Kathleen Alexandrou, Lambkin’s daughter and the Y’s school-age director, presented the award. Alexandrou was joined by her sister, Nicole, and father, Leon Alexandrou.
“She takes time to understand the people she’s with and builds community in little ways every day,” Alexandrou said. “She makes every space she’s in comfortable, intentional, and welcoming to all — and I might be biased — but I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”
Lambkin, who recently retired from PwC after decades as a change management consultant, has served on the local and regional YMCA boards for more than 20 years. She currently serves on the YMCA of the North Shore strategy committee.
Brian Flynn, executive director of the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA, said Lambkin has strengthened the organization through service and relationships.
“Jeanne Lambkin has exemplified those qualities for decades,” Flynn said.
Lambkin said Sherman’s support helped secure the Y’s future and reflected the award’s purpose.
“Strengthening community is a core element of our Y mission statement so it is especially gratifying to see our mission in action tonight,” Lambkin said.
