Marblehead announces traffic plans for Fourth of July events

Marblehead police have announced traffic and parking plans for several large Fourth of July weekend events, beginning Friday, July 3.

The department said the plans are intended to protect pedestrian safety and reduce the impact on residents during some of the town's largest holiday gatherings. Police said the list does not include every event that could affect traffic.

The department said changes are likely and will be posted on the Marblehead Police Department Facebook page. Residents with questions about parking or traffic may call police at 781-631-1212.

Police warn of holiday traffic changes

Police said residents and visitors should expect road closures, traffic pattern changes and parking restrictions around the Horribles Parade, fireworks display and Festival of Arts Street Festival.

The department said officers will use traffic plans similar to prior years, with changes made as needed depending on crowd size, weather and public safety conditions.

Horribles Parade to close Pleasant Street

For the Horribles Parade on Saturday, July 4, Pleasant Street will close at 9 a.m. between Spring Street and Washington Street South. Spring Street will become one way from Pleasant Street to Sewall Street.

Essex Street will be closed during parade staging and movement. The rain date is Sunday, July 5.

Fireworks traffic plan begins at 7 p.m.

For the July 4 fireworks display, several closures will begin at 7 p.m. Front Street will be closed to traffic, with no parking allowed between Franklin Street and Fort Sewall Lane.

Franklin Street will become one way from Front Street to Washington Street. Washington Street will become one way from Franklin Street to State Street.

Causeway to stay open unless emergency arises

Police said the Causeway will not close unless there is an emergency before, during or after the fireworks.

Post-fireworks traffic to be directed off Neck

After the fireworks, traffic leaving the beach parking lots will merge with traffic leaving the Neck. Drivers will be allowed to turn only right or left at the intersection of Ocean and Atlantic avenues.

Front Street will close at State Street to allow pedestrian traffic from Fort Sewall. State Street will become one way from Front Street to Washington Street.

Traffic from the area between State and Franklin streets, as well as Pond Street, will be directed along Mugford Street and Green Street to West Shore Drive.

MBTA route to follow snow-route pattern

The MBTA route will follow the pre-designated snow route between 6 and 11 p.m.

Street Festival to close part of Washington Street

For the Festival of Arts Street Festival on July 3, Washington Street will close between Rockaway Street and Darling Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rockaway and Darling streets will remain open to traffic.

Hooper Street will close between Tucker Street and Washington Street. Mason Street will close between Tucker Street and Washington Street.

Parking bans and towing rules announced

No parking will be allowed on Washington Street between Rockaway Street and Darling Street from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Vehicles in violation may be towed.
