The Marblehead League of Women Voters will host its annual Candidates’ Night on Tuesday, May 26, at the Marblehead High School Library, giving residents a chance to hear from the 18 candidates seeking local office before the June 9 town election.

The program will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the public are invited to arrive at 6:30 p.m. to speak informally with candidates ahead of the formal session.

Voters will weigh six contested races: Select Board, Cemetery Commission, Housing Authority, Recreation and Park, Moderator and School Committee.

Audience members may submit questions for the candidates during the event, and questions also may be emailed in advance to lwvmarblehead@gmail.com. The league asks that residents note which board each question is directed to.

Under a rule the league adopted in 2019, if one candidate in a two-person race cannot attend, the moderator will read a statement submitted by the absent candidate. The candidate who is present will be asked the same questions as if both had attended.

MHTV will not broadcast Candidates’ Night live, organizers said, a change from earlier plans. The station will instead record the event and make it available to watch afterward, likely the following day. The recording also will be posted on marbleheadtv.org and lwvmarblehead.org.

The town election is set for Tuesday, June 9.
