Marblehead singer and composer Eliza Howells has received a $5,000 Grant for Creative Individuals from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Howells, a 2018 Marblehead High School graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree in voice performance and composition from UMass Amherst in 2022 and a master’s degree in composition from Tufts University in 2024. She has released five singles and two music videos over the past year.

Howells said she plans to use part of the grant to professionally record her first four-song EP of original music.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council said the grants are intended to support artists across a range of disciplines across the state. State Rep. Jenny Armini said the Legislature is “a proud funder of the people and programs that enrich our communities through the Mass Cultural Council.”

Howells is scheduled to perform this summer at Roundhead Brewing Company in Boston, the New Bedford Roots & Branches Festival and Sharon Porchfest. Her spring schedule also includes a performance at Carnegie Hall with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, opera productions with Voice of Iris Ensemble and New Opera Company of Boston, and an appearance as a finalist in the 2026 Young Artist Competition with the Philharmonic Society of Arlington.
