The Marblehead Fire and Police Departments will hold a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a news release from the departments.
The ceremony will join similar observances by public safety agencies and communities across the country as they commemorate the anniversary.
The event will honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and pay tribute to the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel and other first responders who died while responding to the attacks, the release said.
Organizers said the ceremony will serve as a tribute to those who lost their lives and to the courage, selflessness and compassion shown by first responders, civilians and communities in the aftermath of the attacks.
The Marblehead Fire and Police Departments are inviting local leaders, public safety personnel, veterans and community members to attend. The departments said the event will give residents a chance to remember those who were lost, honor those who served and reflect on the legacy of Sept. 11, 2001.
