Historian Judy Anderson will discuss Marblehead residents who remained loyal to the British Crown during the American Revolution at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Marblehead Museum. The program will also be available via Zoom.
Anderson will profile 12 heads of household with Loyalist sympathies and examine why they supported the Crown, their actions during the Revolution and what became of them after the war. Among those featured are Robert “King” Hooper, Marblehead’s best-known Loyalist; Joseph Hooper, who left his pregnant wife and children for England; Benjamin Marston, a town leader who later helped resettle freed Black people in West Africa; and Thomas Robie, who fled to Canada after Marbleheaders boycotted his business.
