OBITUARY: Laurel Ann (Burkinshaw) McDonough

Laurel Ann (Burkinshaw) McDonough of Marblehead passed away peacefully on Dec. 29. Born in 1940 in Lynn to James Leo Burkinshaw and Anna Burkinshaw, Laurel was the youngest of four girls. She attended St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s in Lynn. She then attended Chandler School in Boston and went to work in several corporate positions in Boston before leaving to have three children. She cared for her mother for 18 years.

She then took a position at Coldwell Banker in Marblehead for over 20 years. Laurel belonged to Marblehead Newcomers, making many wonderful friends. Laurel joined the Junior Aid Society and served as their organization’s president. She was married for 63 years to Andrew J. McDonough and they settled in Marblehead and Swampscott during their married years. Laurel did a great deal of traveling with her husband, family and wonderful friends. She and her husband belonged to the Corinthian Yacht Club for over 40 years.

She retired after working locally for over 20 years and enjoyed volunteering at the Marblehead Council on Aging and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loved by her friends and family. She is survived by her sons, Kevin of Portland, Maine, Matt of Marblehead and Andrew of Salem as well as her four grandchildren Hunter, Peyton, Grady and Shea McDonough.
