Oct. 8
2:27 a.m. — Officers responded to a report of an alleged stolen vehicle at a convenience store on Pleasant Street. The vehicle’s owner told Officer Taylor Nolasco she had allowed a couple to borrow her white Volkswagen for 20 minutes around midnight, but they had not returned it. She allegedly attempted to contact them for over an hour before calling police. While speaking with the owner, officers encountered the female party, who said the vehicle had been involved in a minor crash in Lynn and was on its way back. Around 3 a.m., the car was returned with front-end damage. The owner arranged to have it towed, and the incident was documented for insurance purposes.
11:02 a.m. — A resident reported alleged larceny at a fitness center on Tioga Way. He told Officer Andrew Clark he had left his wallet in the gym’s workout area on Oct. 5. On Oct. 7, he discovered a $105 unauthorized Amazon purchase. The wallet allegedly also contained cash, two bank cards and an Ecuadorian driver’s license. Both cards were canceled, and the case was referred to the Criminal Investigations Division.
Oct. 9
10:34 a.m. — Officer Sean Sweeney responded to a report of a vehicle doing “doughnuts” in the parking lot of a church on Cornell Road. The driver was located and given a verbal warning after it was determined dispatch could not run the license.
1:58 p.m. — A Kenneth Road resident contacted police to report alleged identity fraud. He told Officer Andrew Clark that he had received a letter from CitiBank confirming a credit card account he had not opened. The resident canceled the account and placed fraud alerts on his credit file. He also notified his financial institutions and was advised to file a report with IdentityTheft.gov.
5:13 p.m. — A woman arrived at the police station to report she had allegedly been scammed out of $1,500 via Venmo. She told Officer Dean Peralta she had received a suspicious and persistent phone call and, under pressure, provided access to her account. She was advised to contact her bank, the credit bureaus and the Venmo fraud department. She had already halted activity on the account.
Oct. 10
3:28 p.m. — Officer Christian Hennigar took a report at the station from a resident who believed she was a victim of identity theft while away on vacation. She reported $600 was withdrawn from her bank account, and her Netflix and LinkedIn accounts had been compromised. She also reported receiving explicit messages from unknown senders. She had already taken steps to freeze her credit and block suspicious contacts. Hennigar advised her to visit IdentityTheft.gov for additional resources.
5:38 p.m. — Officers Robert Picariello and Christian Hennigar were dispatched to Devereux Beach for a report of alleged road rage involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The vehicle involved, a blue Defender, was found pulled over with the operator still inside. The driver was cooperative, and officers collected statements from all parties. No arrests were made, and the incident was documented.
