Power was restored around 12 p.m. Tuesday on Marblehead Neck after the Fire Department asked the Marblehead Municipal Light Department to secure electricity during a residential gas leak, General Manager Jonathan Blair said.

Blair said he was “not fully sure of the details surrounding the gas leak” but called the response “a good coordination effort” that “seemed prudent to keep everyone safe.” He added that MMLD “received lots of calls from residents who were understandably concerned about their upcoming holiday meals,” and noted the controlled outage lasted less than two hours.

The Independent will update this story as more information becomes available.
