Volunteers from SPUR and Sustainable Marblehead marked Arbor Day on Saturdat with a pair of hands-on service projects aimed at beautifying town spaces and supporting Marblehead’s urban tree canopy.

At the Village School, volunteers joined local arborists and town tree supporters for a planting effort held as part of the Massachusetts Arborists Association’s Arbor Day of Service.
Participants helped prepare planting sites, move soil and mulch and place new trees along the school grounds, adding shade and greenery to an area used daily by students, families and staff.
The project brought together residents of several ages, from young children to longtime volunteers, and highlighted Marblehead’s participation in Tree City USA, a national program that recognizes communities for their commitment to public trees.

SPUR volunteers also gathered near the harbor for a coastal cleanup, collecting litter from the beach and surrounding pathways. Armed with buckets, gloves and trash grabbers, the group removed debris from the shoreline while taking in views of Marblehead Harbor.
