Swampscott Fish Tales event to support local news initiative

Swampscott Tides will present Swampscott Fish Tales: An Evening of Community Storytelling on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Swampscott High School auditorium, 200 Essex St., Swampscott.

According to a media alert, the event is a fundraiser to support Swampscott Tides, which is described as “a free online independent news outlet dedicated to comprehensive local coverage.” The organization also describes itself as “an independent nonprofit local news organization committed to informing and engaging the public with fact-based coverage of community issues, culture and events.”

The evening will feature personal stories tied to the theme “A Fish Out of Water.” Each storyteller is expected to share a 10-minute story, according to the media alert.

News anchor and podcaster Kim Carrigan will host the event. The lineup also includes Misha Trubnikov, described as a multiple Moth storyteller and emcee; Fran Sheehan, identified in the media alert as the band Boston’s bass player; Robert Jauron, a lawyer, author and former Swampscott football player; Jo Ann Simons, President/CEO of Northeast Arc; Claire Donnelly, an artist and art therapist; Anton Andresen, identified as Official Magician of Salem; and Naina Alves Varela, described as a Swampscott High METCO graduate.
