To the editor:

As the nomination papers for the upcoming town election are finalized, I am writing to share with my fellow Marblehead residents that I have decided not to seek reelection to the Select Board.

Serving the people of Marblehead has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Together, we have faced significant challenges, navigated complex financial decisions and worked to preserve the unique charm of our beautiful town. I am incredibly proud of what this board has accomplished, and I am grateful for the progress we have made together.

This decision comes after much reflection and with a heavy heart. It is time for me to dedicate the coming years to my family and step aside to allow a new perspective to join the board. While I am stepping down from this role, my love for Marblehead and the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to serve remains unwavering. I look forward to continuing to contribute to our community in new ways.

I am so deeply grateful for the kindness and support shown to me over the years. Thank you to the residents who attended meetings, shared their constructive feedback and truly engaged in the heart of our town government. Whether we agree or not, I will always respect anyone willing to stand up and share their voice. I am also profoundly indebted to our dedicated town employees, volunteers and my fabulous colleagues on the Select Board—past and present—for their tireless work, mentorship and collaboration.

This is not an easy position. I am not afraid to admit I lost many nights of sleep agonizing over difficult but necessary decisions because I care so deeply about our town, our residents and our future. As the new Select Board of 2026 moves forward in June, I wish them strength, dedication and the foresight to carry Marblehead forward.

I wish the best of luck to the candidates stepping up to run for an elected town position. I encourage all residents to stay engaged, attend Town Meeting and continue making Marblehead the wonderful home we all love.

With gratitude,

Alexa Singer
