Abbot Public Library will show a classic comedy starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in its Event Center. Under the library’s movie licensing agreement, it can’t give the title in press releases or on social media.
The title is posted on the library’s website at tinyurl.com/Nov-2026-Movie. The screening is free and open to all and is sponsored by the Friends of Abbot Public Library.
The matinee is one of three programs the library is highlighting for Nov. 12 to 18. Two days later, adults 18 and older can go back to the toys of their childhood at Young at Heart: Maker Club for Adults, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Thompson Makerspace. According to the release, Spirographs, Lite-Brites, K’NEX, Snap Circuits and other construction toys will be available.
The release says there are no assigned projects, no experience is needed and no registration is required. Dan Saulnier, the library’s technical resource specialist, leads the program, which is funded by the Abbot Public Library Foundation.
For families, the Greater Salem Ballet Company will lead The Magic of the Nutcracker, a 45-minute holiday program, from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Event Center. Children will hear a reading of “The Nutcracker,” meet a ballerina in costume, learn about ballet and pointe shoes, watch a pointe demonstration and take home a Nutcracker-themed activity sheet. Online registration is required at tinyurl.com/Magic-Nutcracker.
