Abbot Public Library to host program on eco-friendly lawn alternatives

Table of Contents

Abbot Public Library and Sustainable Marblehead will host "Transition Your Lawn: Plant Hope," a December program designed to show residents how small landscape changes can support healthier ecosystems.

The event focuses on shifting from manicured turf lawns to environmentally beneficial yard practices. According to the announcement, the program will outline the environmental costs associated with traditional lawns and offer strategies for reducing maintenance, cutting water use, absorbing carbon, avoiding chemical treatments and promoting biodiversity.

Presenters Judith Black, a storyteller and climate activist, and garden designer Larry Simpson will explain five models for natural landscaping and share examples of how residents can adopt sustainable yard approaches.

The program will take place Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Abbot Public Library.

The release notes that the session offers "practical, inspiring solutions" for those looking to mow less, conserve water, support local ecosystems "or just save your sacrum." It is open to all community members.
