Marblehead Little Theatre will hold non-Equity auditions in August for “Medea,” written by Euripides and translated by Diane Arnson Svarlien.
Auditions are scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3. Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Video submissions will be accepted through Aug. 3. Performers should prepare two short monologues, one classical and one contemporary. The monologues may be performed in either order and do not need to contrast in tone.
The play follows Medea, a sorceress who is exiled after being betrayed by her husband, the Greek hero Jason. She plots her escape and revenge against those she believes have wronged her.
The theater is casting Medea, Jason, Nurse, Creon, Tutor, Aegus and a six-member chorus. Most roles are open to performers of all ages, though Creon is listed for a male-presenting actor in his 40s or older.
The theater said actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, body types and abilities are encouraged to audition. All performers must be 18 or older.
Twelve performances are scheduled from Oct. 2 through Oct. 18.
Audition appointments are available at MLTLive.org. Video submissions and questions may be sent to director Jon Kinney at kinneyj91@gmail.com.
