SWAMPSCOTT – The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Kearsarge Lodge No. 217 has pledged $10,000 toward preserving the historic General John Glover Farmhouse, supporters announced.

The donation marks a milestone for Save the Glover!, a nonprofit group formed in late 2025 to raise money for restoration and long-term maintenance of the farmhouse, once home to John Glover. The property, located in Vinnin Square, faces a pending demolition date in July 2026.

Cabot Dodge, noble grand of Kearsarge Lodge No. 217, said lodge members voted unanimously to support the effort. "The Glover House isn't just a building; it is a vital piece of our American story right here in our backyard," Dodge said. The pledge was made in honor of former lodge member Glover "Peter" B. Preble, a descendant of Glover.

Save the Glover! organizers said the campaign has raised nearly $500,000 in donations and pledges toward an estimated $2 million needed for preservation ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Odd Fellows for their generosity and leadership," said Connie Carman of Save the Glover!. "A gift of this magnitude provides the momentum we need to reach our ultimate goals."

The Kearsarge Lodge No. 217 is a nonpolitical, nonsectarian fraternal organization that supports local charities, scholarships and historic preservation projects on the North Shore.
