TO THE EDITOR: Neighbor’s kindness brings gratitude

Table of Contents

To the editor:

I am 83 years old, suffer from COPD, and evidently some cognitive issues as well, because on Wednesday, June 20 I was peddling my beloved e-bike along Atlantic Avenue in 91-degree heat, when my rear tire exploded. I was pushing the bike along the roadside, under the blistering sun gasping for breath, and considering my unattractive options, when I heard a voice inquire, "Need help?"

The driver of the black Audi that stopped beside me cleared out his trunk and back seat, and wrestled my heavy bike into his car, drove me to Dan Shuman's Cycle Shop, and lugged my bike safely inside. My savior reluctantly identified himself as Eric Schobert (I am not sure of the spelling) and told me that he was an avid biker, had some connection with a bike shop, and had two blowouts last Sunday. I hope anyone who knows Eric, and reads this will convey my heartfelt gratitude. Neighbors like Eric make me grateful to live in this community, challenged though it is.
