TO THE EDITOR: Why I support John Beccia for Congress

To the editor:

Skyrocketing costs of groceries, gas and utilities, are painful, and being made worse by tariffs and oil wars. Healthcare is prohibitively expensive and rising. The astronomical expense of housing creates brutal obstacles for people just to have a place to live. And what will happen to the Social Security and Medicare that we’ve paid for and are counting on (especially for senior citizens)? The federal government is failing us; we deserve much better.

For this reason, I am strongly endorsing John Beccia (https://www.becciaforcongress.com and https://www.facebook.com/becciaforcongress) as MA-06’s next representative in Congress (the seat Seth Moulton is leaving), and I ask that you join me in voting for Beccia in the Sept. 1 Democratic primary.

Beccia’s background as a banker; law professor; and a founder of a firm specializing in regulatory control for financial technology, provides the competency needed to address the affordability crisis and improve the quality of life of the people of the North Shore. Beccia has published an actionable plan, “The North Shore New Deal,” to support our communities. He will fight to turn the tide on corruption and insider trading by government officials; safeguard the environmental protections so important to coastal communities; and ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) is appropriately regulated and harnessed to work for people not against them.

In banking, I worked with Beccia, to fight fraud and combat money laundering and terrorist financing. I know Beccia to be a thoughtful, intelligent, action-oriented listener and a capable trustworthy person with integrity. Beccia delivers on his commitments and gets the job done. He is devoted to his family; proud of his working-class roots; cares about others; and is strongly motivated to serve all people in our community and “put people before politics.” You couldn’t elect a better person to fight for democracy.

Now more than ever (“You betcha”) we need and deserve the best possible representation in Washington. In the spirit of the patriots of 1776, let’s send Beccia to Congress to ensure we get it!

Sincerely,

Maureen R. McCarthy
