Marblehead is under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18, as part of a National Weather Service watch covering Essex County and five other Massachusetts counties.

The watch, issued by the Storm Prediction Center, means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop, but it does not mean a tornado has been spotted. The Marblehead forecast calls for showers and possible thunderstorms into the evening, with gusty winds and higher rainfall possible in storms.

Residents should monitor National Weather Service updates and be prepared to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building if a tornado warning is issued.
